BHS Training
Structured and Supported Training
As a BHS Approved Centre, we offer professional training for riders and horse owners working towards their British Horse Society (BHS) qualifications.
Whether you’re beginning your equestrian journey or looking to progress your career, our structured courses and tailored sessions provide the knowledge, confidence and experience you need to succeed.
Courses and Levels
We provide training for:
- BHS Stage 1, Stage 2 and up to Stage 3
- Ride Safe Award (required before taking Stage 1)
- Challenge Awards
You can train and take your Stage 1 exam here at Hewshott, and continue your Stage 2 and 3 training with us before taking exams at an external centre.
This gives candidates valuable experience in riding and handling horses in different environments — an important part of developing as a well-rounded horseperson.
Tailored Learning
Training can be delivered as private lessons or small group sessions, depending on your needs and goals.
We begin with an initial assessment to understand your current level and create a personal plan — from short refresher sessions to full six-week programmes.
Tuition is available in:
- Horse care and management
- Riding and schooling
- Lunging
- Exam preparation and mock assessments
Each session is delivered by an experienced, BHS-qualified instructor who provides supportive, practical teaching tailored to every learner.
Ride Safe and Challenge Awards
We also offer training and assessment for the BHS Ride Safe Award, which is essential for anyone taking their Stage 1 exam.
In addition, we run the full range of BHS Challenge Awards, including the popular Silver Challenge, covering both ridden and care-based topics.
These flexible awards are a great way to learn new skills and gain recognition at your own pace.
