Changing Lives through Horses
Helping Young People Learn, Grow and Thrive
Changing Lives Through Horses is a British Horse Society (BHS) alternative education programme that uses horses to help young people develop confidence, learn new skills and reach their potential.
At Hewshott Farm Stables, the programme offers a supportive environment where young people can learn through practical horse care and riding activities, developing skills that can benefit them in everyday life and education.

Who Is It For?
The programme is for young people aged 5–25 who may benefit from a different approach to learning. This includes young people with additional needs, those who are neurodivergent, or those who are finding traditional education challenging.
No previous experience with horses is needed.
Building Skills for Life
Through working with horses, participants develop six key life skills:
• Communication
• Confidence
• Teamwork
• Building relationships
• Perseverance
• Responsibility
The programme includes the BHS Achiever Awards for ages 6–11 and Explorer Awards for ages 11 and over, recognising progress and achievement through structured learning.
