Lessons
Learn to ride with confidence
At Hewshott Farm Stables, we offer professional, friendly riding lessons for children and adults of all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced riders.
Our goal is to help every rider develop confidence, skill and a genuine connection with horses in a safe, supportive environment.
Getting Started
If you’re new to Hewshott, your first session will be a private 30-minute assessment lesson.
This helps us understand your ability, confidence level, and goals, so we can match you with the most suitable horse or pony and instructor.
We’ll ask you to complete a Rider Registration Form in advance and wear appropriate clothing. Riding hats and boots can be borrowed for your first few lessons if needed.

Types of Lessons
We offer a range of lessons to suit every age and ability:
- Private lessons – personalised one-to-one tuition
- Semi-private lessons – small groups of two riders at a similar level
- Group lessons – fun, social sessions that encourage learning together
- Lead-rein lessons – for our youngest riders
- Specialist lessons – including jumping, flatwork, confidence building and exam preparation
Lessons are available seven days a week, with flexible times to fit around school, work and family life.
Progress and Development
Many of our riders start with us as beginners and go on to achieve Pony Club badges, BHS stages, or take part in our in-house competitions and events.
Our instructors are BHS-qualified and passionate about helping each rider progress at their own pace, with encouragement and expert guidance at every stage.

Whether you’re bringing a child for their first lesson or trying riding for the first time yourself, you can rest assured that safety and enjoyment are our top priorities.
We carefully match riders to our well-trained, kind horses and ponies, ensuring every experience is positive and rewarding.
